Vânia Silva

Vânia Sofia de Sousa Silva ( born June 8, 1980 in Leiria) is a Portuguese Hammer Throw. She took part in both the 2001 World Championships, 2003 and 2007 and at the 2004 Olympic Games and 2008.

Vânia Silva won the 2000 their first Portuguese national champion until 2009, she won the title eight times, only 2002 and 2004 won Sónia Alves. At the 2001 World Championships she won with 58.91 meters in their qualifying group to fourteenth place. Two years later at the 2003 World Championships she threw the hammer 63.82 meters, than tithing their qualifying group it was 2.28 meters short of the qualifying distance for the final. Then she succeeded neither in the Olympics, even at world or European championships a place among the top 12 of their qualifying group. 2006 Vânia Silva reached their greatest international success when they with 64.59 meters won the silver medal behind Amarilys Alméstica from Puerto Rico at the Ibero-American games.
