Vanilla ( tschech. Vanilkové rohlíčky ) are a traditional German -Austrian- Bohemian Christmas cookies in squirrel form.

They are made from a pastry made ​​of flour, butter, sugar and grated, often ( roasted ) almonds - depending on the region but also walnuts, peanuts or hazelnuts - which is flavored with the Mark of vanilla pods. Easy shaping the croissant is by the addition of egg yolk to the dough, but the result is less crumbly and tender. The dough is formed into about a finger long spindles, bent into croissants, baked and then turned in powdered sugar while still warm.
