Vas County

Vas [ vɒʃ ] ( German iron castle, Slovenian Železna županija; NUTS -3: HU222, ISO 3166-2 Code: HU -VA ) is a county (administrative district ) in the west of Hungary.

Geography

It is bordered by Austria (Burgenland), Slovenia and the Győr -Moson -Sopron, Veszprém and Zala. It has 3336 km ² and 267,000 inhabitants. The county seat is Szombathely ( Szombathely ), other major cities are Vasvár (Iron Castle), Sarvar ( Kotenburg ) Körmend ( Kirment ) and Kőszeg ( Güns ).

Main river is the Raab. The landscape is hilly and is in the north, in the Little Hungarian Plain.
