Vasja Rupnik
Vasja Rupnik ( born June 6, 1977 in Ljubljana ) is a retired Slovenian biathlete and former cross-country skier. He competed in five world championships in both sports.
Vasja Rupnik is a student, married and lives in Logatec. He starts for TSK Valkarton Logatec. He began his career as a cross country skier. In 1995 he competed in the Junior World Championships in Gaellivare and reached best result number 23 in the 30 -kilometer race. In December of that year he made his debut at senior level within the framework of a FIS race on the Tauplitzalm. In 1996 he joined again at a Junior World Championships and reached in Asiago best result 13th place over 10 kilometers. A year later he started in Canmore at his last World Junior Championships and reached a 15 about 30 kilometers his best result. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season debuted Rupnik in Beitostølen in the Cross Country World Cup and finished about 10 km to the 106th place. Until his first participation in a Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, he could never place in the points of the World Cup. Best result was a 15- kilometer race in Candanchu within the Continental Cups until then 10th place. About this track he started in Finland, reaching the 55th rank. Two years later at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme Rupnik was used in three races. In pursuit race he came up with the very good for him 33rd place, about 15 kilometers he was 51 and about 30 kilometers 50th Rupniks best season in the long run was 2003/04. He managed not only in the team sprint with Matej Soklic than 23 his best World Cup result, he reached fifth places in the 15 - kilometer -Continental Cup race in Dobbiaco and the FIS race over the same distance in Bad Gastein his best individual results. Nevertheless, he decided to go to the biathlon because of persistent failure in the long run.
In Slovenian biathlon squad Rupnik moved immediately to the national team. In the same year he gave in Obertilliach than 57 in a single his debut in the Biathlon European Cup. In his second race, a sprint at the same place, he could already be 18. That same season of Slovene in Ruhpolding launched for the first time in the Biathlon World Cup and was 77th in the sprint. In Hochfilzen, he joined shortly thereafter equal to the first time at Biathlon World Championships at, but reached only 94th in the sprint. In October 2012 Rupnik announced his resignation because he feared due to a protracted viral disease to miss the connection to the team.
