VASP

Viação Aérea São Paulo ( VASP short ) was a Brazilian airline based in São Paulo.

History

The VASP was founded in 1933. The founders, a group of entrepreneurs from São Paulo, the business could lead only very briefly, until the company was purchased by the State of São Paulo. In these early years of Brazil, there were only a very rudimentary structure in the area of civil aviation.

With the construction of the airport Congonhas flights between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo were taken first. This aircraft of the type Junkers Ju -52 were used. As a result of this connection is no longer the Campo de Marte (Mars Field ) was served from.

Development and fleet

With the end of World War II and after the procurement of aircraft of the type Douglas DC-3, many new targets have been served and VASP developed into one of the main Brazilian airlines.

Privatization

With the economic crisis in the 1980s, the so-called " Decada perdida no Brasil " ( the lost decade of Brazil ), the Government of the State of São Paulo were no longer available financial resources to invest in the company. Under the reign of the governor Orestes Quércia the company was privatized. Were Wagner Canhedo owner of the Canhedo group of companies and employees of the Company, which together held about 60 % of the shares.

1995 bought the VASP 50 % of the Bolivian airline Lloyd Aereo Boliviano and sold this share in 2001 Bolivian investors. After a severe financial crisis in 2004, the flight operation in 2005 has been set.
