Vassilis Tsitsanis

Vasilis Tsitsanis (Greek Βασίλης Τσιτσάνης also Vassilis Tsitsanis; born January 18, 1917 in Trikala, Greece; † January 18, 1984 in London, United Kingdom ) was a Greek composer, bouzouki virtuoso and singer.

Tsitsanis is regarded as one of the most important representatives of rebetiko and acted as the composer, who further developed very strongly that music. He has recorded more than 600 songs on plates. To the great majority he plays in his plays bouzouki and sings himself second or third voice. However, he was also in demand for other composers as bouzouki and artist, so he participated in numerous panels of his " rivals ". Many of his songs are still very popular, such as Synefiasmeni Kyriaki (Greek Συννεφιασμένη Κυριακή / Gloomy Sunday), which was composed during the occupation of Greece by the Germans. Although the text of the song contains no political allusions, it has repeatedly been interpreted politically. It is one of the songs by heart many Greeks.
