The 1082 km long Wassjugan (Russian Васюган, also Wasjugan, Vasyugan ) is a left tributary of the Ob in Siberia (Russia, Asia).

The Wassjugan rises in the northern part of the Wassjugan -Moore (see a Wassjuganje ), the largest marsh system of the earth with more than 50,000 km ² and 14 billion tons of peat up to 10 meters thick layers, the Western Siberian lowlands near the border between Oblast Tomsk and Novosibirsk Oblast at about 140 m. In the further course it flows through highly meandering in a wide arc, the Tomsk Oblast and finally flows into the Ob. Especially in the lower reaches of the river forms a plurality of arms, shoals and islands in the floodplain there are many lakes and bayous. The catchment area covers 61,800 km ². The mean monthly water levels at Naunak, 63 km off the mouth is 328 m³ / s ( minimum in February: 81.6 m³ / s, maximum in June: 951 m³ / s). According to other sources the mean discharge is at Naunak 381 m³ / s

The Wassjugan freezes from November to May

It is up to the village of Nowy Wassjugan navigable (593 km). In the catchment area of the Wassjugan petroleum and natural gas are encouraged.

The main tributaries are right Njurolka ( Нюролька; 60 km navigable ) and Tschischapka ( Чижапка ), from left Tschertala ( Чертала ) and Jagyljacha ( Ягылъяха ).
