Vatican City national football team

The football team of the Vatican City ( Italian: selezione di calcio della Città del Vaticano ) consists of Swiss Guards, papal councils and museum guards. Since the Vatican is not a member of the world football governing body FIFA nor UEFA European Football Association, the team does not participate in qualifying matches for World and European Championships.

Because only a few hundred people possess the Vatican citizenship and they can not be dispensed in large numbers for a long time, the team can rarely compete on friendly games. Trying to participate in the so-called World Cup for non-members of FIFA failed on this very problem.

Colloquially and in the media perception, the football team is often referred to as a national team.

Stadium

Since the Vatican City is too small for a football pitch, the "home games" outside of the city state at the Stadio Pio XII will be held. The Stadio Pio XII is located in Albano Laziale. In the stadium find about 1500 people.
