Vavaʻu
Vavau is one of the Kingdom of Tonga belonging archipelago.
Geography
The Vavau Group measures approx 21 km from east to west and 25 km from north to south. The state of the 2006 census, 17 of the 34 upscale and lush islands were inhabited. Vavau had 15,485 inhabitants to the 2006 census to a total of 121 square kilometers. 3900 of them lived in the capital Neiafu. The main island of Vavau is with 89.74 square kilometers, the second largest island of Tonga.
Vavau is a sloping reef with upscale in the north to 200 m high cliffs. On the south side of the island group dissolves into many small waterways and islets. The largest of these waterways, the fjord-like Ava Pulepulekai Channel, reaches 11 km into the country to the port of Neiafu, the only city Vavaus.

Economy
With its scenic beauty Vavau is particularly popular with sailors and other tourists and one of the most important tourist centers of Tonga. From May to October is the port of Vavau goal of sailboats from all over the world. Besides the beauty of the island and the laboring near their young humpback whales and the betauchbaren underwater caves are outstanding attractions.
Besides tourism, agriculture and fishing are the main sources of income of the population. The attached here vanilla is one of the best in the world. In addition, giant clams and pearls are still bred.
