Vegeta (food)

The Vegeta [ ʋɛgɛta ] is a salt- based mixture of the flavor enhancer monosodium glutamate with herbs and various vegetables and is sold worldwide as a spice for food such as meat, soups and sauces.

Production and ingredients

The yellowish spice powder is produced by the Croatian Podravka Group, whose headquarters is located in Koprivnica. There is a branch in Poland and the two license companies in Austria and Hungary. Comparable products of other manufacturers are Vegetka from the Czech Republic, the German manufacturer Knorr Aromat, or the Swiss product Fondor of Maggi. The Czech Vegetka is now sold without glutamate.

Among the ingredients of vegetation include:

  • Salt ( max. 56%)
  • Dried vegetables ( 15.5 %): carrots, parsnips, onions, celery, parsley
  • Monosodium glutamate ( max. 15 %)
  • Sugar
  • Strength
  • Spices
  • Disodium inosinate (flavor enhancer )
  • Riboflavin ( dye).

History

Vegeta was developed in the Podravka laboratories under the direction of Zlata Bartl 1958. They were launched in 1959 in Yugoslavia. In her honor in 2001, the company established a foundation for graduate and postgraduate students.

The product in the blue packaging was first brought in 1959 under the name Vegeta 40 on the Yugoslav market. 1967, it was subsequently exported to Hungary and the USSR. In 1995 there were 26,000 t an export record. Vegeta 2008 is available in over 30 countries. Since 2006, there are numerous varieties of vegetation.

  • Vegeta is the name of the protagonist of the anime series Dragon Ball Z and there also the name of a fictional planet.
