Veit Hanns Schnorr von Carolsfeld

Veit Schnorr von Hanns Friedrich Carol Field ( born May 11, 1764 in Schneeberg, † April 30, 1841 in Leipzig ) was a German painter.

Life

Schnorr was a personal friend of the poet Johann Gottfried Seume and accompanied him on his trip to Syracuse in 1801, but broke up already in Vienna from him.

In 1803 he returned and was sub teacher at the Art Academy in Leipzig. 1814, after the death of Johann Friedrich August Tischbein, he became director of the institution and held this position until 1841.

Schnorr was an eminent portrait painter, among other things, he created portraits of Seume and Friedrich Rochlitz.

Family

Two sons Schnorr were also important painters:

  • Julius Schnorr von Carol Field and
  • Ludwig Ferdinand Schnorr von Carol Field
