Velasio De Paolis
Velasio Cardinal De Paolis CS ( born September 19, 1935 in Sonnino, Latina, Italy) is a Roman Catholic canon law and emeritus Cardinal.
Life
Velasio De Paolis resigned after his school days of the Congregation of the Congregation Scalabrinian at as a novice and studied at the seminary of the same order. On 4 October 1958 he made his final vows and on 18 March 1961, he was ordained a priest. Afterwards, De Paolis was to continue his studies in canon law specialist sent to Rome, where he in 1966 at the Pontifical Gregorian University with a dissertation on the subject of the nature of the violence of the Vicar General. A historical and critical analysis of Dr. iur. can. received his doctorate and Saint Thomas Aquinas acquired at the Pontifical University of the licentiate in Catholic theology.
From 1965 to 1970 Velasio De Paolis taught moral theology and canon law at the seminary of the Congregation Scalabrinian. In 1971 he became professor of canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Moreover, it was De Paolis 1970-1974 provincial of his order. In 1987 he became a professor at the Pontifical Urban University in 1998 and ultimately became the Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law.
De Paolis was consultant to the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Congregation for the Clergy, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
On 30 December 2003 by Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Thelepte and secretary of the Apostolic Signatura. He received his episcopal consecration on 21 February 2004 Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Silvano Maria Tomasi CS and Bishop Francesco Saverio Salerno.
On April 12, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. President of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See and made him titular Archbishop per hac vice. In addition, he was appointed Benedict XVI. on 9 July 2010 on the papal delegate for the Legionaries of Christ, where he will be responsible for the structural and spiritual changes in the religious community, which had called for a previous Apostolic Visitation because of the abuse scandal at the Marcial Maciel Degollado Founder.
In solemn consistory of November 20, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI took him. as cardinal deacon with the title Gesù Buon Pastore alla Montagnola diakonia in the College of Cardinals. On September 21, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the Velasio of Cardinal De Paolis put forward reasons of age resignation from the office of President of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See at.
