Veliefendi Race Course
The Veliefendi Hipodromu is the largest and oldest racecourse in Turkey. The racecourse is located in Bakırkoy on the European side of Istanbul, near the Sea of Marmara. The racecourse was built at the instigation of Enver Pasha in 1912/ 13 of German specialists. The namesake of the race track was the Veli Efendi Scheichülislam.
The grandstands of the racetrack hold 7600 spectators. They were built in the years 1967 to 1969. The distance is 2400 meters.
