Course of Welikaja
The Welikaja (Russian Великая, Большая Великая ( Bolschaja Welikaja, Large Welikaja ) Онемен ( onemen ) ) is a tributary of the Bering Sea in the Autonomous District of the Chukchi in the extreme east of Siberia.
The Welikaja arises in Korjakengebirge at the confluence of its headwaters Kylwygeiwaam ( Кыльвыгейваам ) and Kuimweiem ( Куимвеем ). It flows in a predominantly north-easterly direction through the southern area of the Anadyrtieflands. Here it forms several smaller side arms. The Welikaja finally flows to the west of the city of Anadyr in the onemen Bay ( залив Онемен ), a southern side of the bay Anadyr estuary. The Welikaja has a length of 451 km (by source river Kylwygeiwaam there are 556 kilometers ). Its catchment area covers 31,000 km ². The Welikaja is covered with ice from October to late May.
