Velilla del Río Carrión

Velilla del Río Carrión is a city and municipality in the province of Palencia, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. The county is in Montaña Palentina, together with the provinces of León and Cantabria. Velilla del Río Carrión has a population of 1462 inhabitants ( INE, effective 1st January 2013).

In the last century the city was under the decisive influence of coal - mining, which is currently going through a serious crisis, which led to a sharp decline in the population. The only industry that remained, the coal-fired power plant of the company Iberdrola.
