Vellefrey-et-Vellefrange

Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange situated at an altitude of 205 m above sea level, 3 km north-northeast of Gy and about 26 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, to the north of the river the Morte in the plane of Gy, northwest of the heights of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​7.13 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The southern boundary runs mostly along the Morte, which provides for drainage west to the Saône. The broad valley is on average 205 m and has fertile alluvial soils, which are used for agriculture. Only a very small share in the locality Vellefrange lies south of the Morte. From the course of the river Morte, the municipality's area extends northward into the weakly in relief landscape of the Petits Bois de Gy, which is composed of Tertiary deposits. With 261 m find the highest mountains of Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange is achieved.

The double municipality consists of the villages Vellefrey (205 m north of the Morte ) and Vellefrange (205 m south of the Morte ). Neighboring communities of Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange are La Chapelle -Saint- Quillain in the north, Vantoux -et- Longevelle in the east, Bucey -lès- Gy and Gy in the south and Citey and Angirey in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Vellefrey and Vellefrange belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1806 merged Vellefrey and Vellefrange to today's double municipality. Today Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange is a member of the 20 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy. The municipality does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Bucey -lès- Gy.

Attractions

The castle in Vellefrey was built in 18th century by the architect Colombot. Also in Vellefrey is a covered Lavoir from the 19th century, which formerly served as well, wash and livestock watering.

Population

With 116 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 190 people were still counting ), up to 1990 only small fluctuations were registered. Since then, there was again recorded a significant increase in population.

Economy and infrastructure

Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes, but is easily accessible from the main road D474 which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul. Further road links exist with Bucey -lès- Gy Citey and Longevelle.
