Geography

Velsdorf is located approximately 4 km north- west of the spots Calvörde in Drömling Nature Park on the Mittelland Canal. To the east lies the Isernhagen, north of the Benenberg and south of the mountain lice.

History

The place Velsdorf was first mentioned in a deed of 1471. Located on the north side of Calvörde behind the forest area Isernhagen village, although of German origin, but occupied in the 11th century with the environment of Wendish inhabitants. The place was deserted during the 12th and 13th century and from 1500 the castle belonged Calvörde. The village is dominated by the round ling similar arrangement of the large Bauernhöfte, suggesting Wendish origin. In the 18th century Velsdorf had received school.

Historically Velsdorf is connected to the spots Calvörde, an exclave of the Principality of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel.

On January 1, 2010, the formerly independent communities Velsdorf, Berenbrock closed ( with Elsebeck and Lössewitz ), Dorst, Grauingen, Klüden, Mannhausen, Wegenstedt and Zobbenitz together with the patch Calvörde the new community Calvörde.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 10 January 1996 by the Government Bureau of Magdeburg.

Blazon: " Divided by silver and green; is a rooted cutting tree stump in confused colors with two green oak leaves. "

Velsdorf led hitherto a non- licensed image seal showing a tree stump. With this picture, the community refers to those at the local district or in the immediate vicinity oak ( English oak ), some of which are several hundred years old and concise for the flora of the region. It is believed that the place that traces its founding to Slavic ethnic groups, is caused by clearing of once mighty oak forests that existed in the early Middle Ages as a closed forest areas. The oak stump in the coat of arms also intended to express that.

The coat of arms was designed by Jörg Kommunalheraldiker Mantzsch.

Traffic

At the federal highway 188 connects the Wolfsburg Stendal, there are about 18 km to the north. The village is also connected by the two county roads 1651 and 1138.

Furthermore, the Mittelland Canal via the territory of the district, the next transfer point is located three kilometers distance in Calvörde.
