Shipping
The river was canalised in the 19th century between the mouth and Fontenay -le- Comte and released for shipping. The locks Le Chasm ( at the mouth ) and Longèves overcame the small height difference. The cruise was set in 1965. The lock Le Chasm is still visible today.
