Venedykt Aleksiychuk

Valeriy Aleksiychuk MSU, Ukrainian: Венедикт ( Валерій ) Алексійчук ( born January 16, 1968 in Borshchivka, Ukraine ) is called with religious name Venedykt ( German: Benedict ) and Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv of the Greek - Catholic Church of the Ukrainians.

Life

As a child and teenager Valeriy Aleksiychuk experienced the Church only in the underground. His mother, a teacher, took him to church occasionally. As church attendance for the career negatively affected, he also had no regular contact with the Christian faith. Following schooling and military service Valeriy worked in nursing. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the national rebirth of Ukraine, he came back to the church. He took the theological seminary in Lviv compound and began studying theology.

On 9 October 1991 initiated him Philemon Kurchaba CSsR, the Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv, a deacon. The ordination took place on March 29, 1992 by Cardinal Ivan Myroslaw Ljubatschiwskyj. Since 1992 he worked as a chaplain in Bystrytsya, a village in western Ukraine. In 1993, he joined the Congregation of the Studi tenor Dens and laid on 31 December 1995 his religious profession. His orders sent him who had chosen the name Benedict as a religious priest, in the eastern Ukraine. The General Government commissioned Father Benedict with a mission work by Polotsk in Belarus. He could converse in Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian and also preached in these languages. The Belarusian authorities observed the young Hieromonk with critical and suspicious eyes. This led to a conflict with the government. Father Benedict was sent to Canada and managed a community. On April 17, 1999 he was elected Hegumen of Studitenklosters in Uniw, he was confirmed in his office in 2005.

On 14 July 2010, the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church elected him Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv. This election was on August 3, 2010, with a concurrent appointment as Titular Bishop of Germaniciana, by Pope Benedict XVI. confirmed. He was ordained by Archbishop Ihor Voznyak CSsR (Lviv ) and the co-consecrators Julian Voronovsky MSU ( Auxiliary Bishop of Lviv ) and Paul Patrick Chomnycky OSBM ( Bishop of Stamford, USA) a bishop on September 5, 2010.
