Veneer (dentistry)

Veneer (English for veneer) is a thin, translucent ceramic bowl for the teeth with special glue on the tooth surface - applied - especially of anterior teeth. The pressure shell is made of ceramic (porcelain). Apart from rare allergy to the mounting material, the use of ceramic veneers usually is not a health hazard, because the ceramic material has a very high biocompatibility. There are problems only in very massive fluoridated enamel. In addition, the necessary occlusal carry the risk of chronic pulpitis ( pulp inflammation), must inform the doctor about the ( decision of the OLG Hamm on May 30, 2011). Veneers slight misaligned teeth, tooth gaps, unsatisfactory tooth color and local discoloration can be corrected. Veneers obtained by the visible surfaces of the teeth, an optimized look, and the shade is individually corrected in this method. As a rule, old plastic fillings or corner abutments are removed when they are used.

The present long-term clinical studies prove that only two percent of the ceramic veneers are lost within six years. This positive outcome has led to the recognition of the process by the German Society of Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ( DGZMK ).

All-ceramic restoration

Ceramic is light through conducting and tooth-colored, enabling a very esthetic tooth image. In addition, it is chemically inert, which means it goes in your mouth not in solution, and is therefore very biologically compatible.

Procedure

It is ( 0.3-1.0 mm) removed from the tooth enamel, a thin layer. This preparation is carried out according to the anatomical conditions with the aim to achieve an optimal cosmetic and durable result. There is an impression. The temporary restoration is done with Kunststoffveneers. The dental technician prepares the veneer on the model and there is to be inserted to the dentist. After try by the dentist, the tooth is cleaned and ideally dry with the help of a rubber dam. The enamel is etched, possibly exposed dentin is treated with a so-called dentin. The Keramikveneer is treated with special ceramic etching gel and silanized to ensure good adhesion of the composite resin adhesive. The adhesion of the ceramic to the tooth is rather complex and usually takes with all the preparatory measures about 30 minutes per tooth.

Through the application of new techniques, there is the possibility of veneers in material thickness of contact lenses produce ( about 0.2 mm). They have the advantage that they can be directly on the tooth structure, ie without previous grinding of the tooth, applied. This non-prep or non- invasive veneers also offer the possibility of extended indications. Unlike traditional veneers, they can be cemented on previous plastic fillings, ceramic crowns or bridges.

Patented advancements allow today by so-called Einsetzhilfen a tremendous time saver because all veneers of a patient can be incorporated simultaneously. This approach saves about 80-90 % of the time that was needed for conventional veneers and reduces the cost considerably.

Depending on the quality and effort that must be operated for veneers ( ceramic or hybrid plastic ), costs a veneer from 300 € to 1 500 €.

Whether and to what extent, then a private health insured patients the fees and laboratory costs for the production and the use of such preparations are to be reimbursed by his insurance, sometimes provides for dispute. When the veneer is only used for aesthetic reasons, but is to be regarded as an acceptable medical treatment, the Landgericht Frankfurt am Main enters a judgment delivered in 2004 to a reimbursement obligation of private health insurance.

For his services he was admitted, inter alia, in the Hall of Fame of the University of Southern California.

Veneers are manufactured by dental technicians or the latest CAD / CAM centers. There are dental technicians who have specialized in the production of ceramic veneers for cosmetic restorations.
