Venetian nationalism

Venetian nationalism (Italian venetismo ) is a political ideology and a regionalist political movement that calls for greater autonomy or even independence of the Italian region of Veneto and is committed to the rediscovery of cultural heritage and the language of the Republic of Venice.

Representatives of the hard core of the Veneto Veneto to see movement as a distinct nation of Italy and the validity of the referendum question, by the Veneto in 1866, part of the Italian nation-state. Some, like the Venetian National Party / Veneto Stato campaign for a new referendum on the independence of the Veneto region, a country that would include all the territories of the historic Republic of Venice ( Serenissima Repubblica), so the current Veneto, Friuli - Venezia Giulia, some areas Lombardy ( Brescia, Bergamo, Crema and part of the province of Mantua ) and a part of Trentino.

In January 2012, the grouping Veneto Stato conducted a survey according to which 53% of the inhabitants of the Veneto region would vote for a fictional referendum for the independence of their region.

Since 1979, countless organizations have emerged that cover the full range of the political spectrum (still active groups are in bold ):

  • Movimento Veneto Regione Autonoma ( MVRA - founded in 1987, and since 2000 part of LVR / VdE )

  • Lega Autonomia Veneta ( LAV - founded in 1991, and since 1997 part of MNE )
  • League Nathion Veneta ( LNV - founded in 1994, dissolved soon after)
  • Unione Nord-Est ( UNE - founded in 1996, in 1999 briefly part of LVR / VdE )
  • Movimento Nord-Est (MNE - founded in 1997, and since 1999 part of I Democratici )
