Vera Dushevina

Vera Dushevina Evgenevna (Russian Вера Евгеньевна Душевина; born October 6, 1986 in Moscow) is a Russian tennis player.

Career

Vera Dushevina began at the age of seven years under the guidance of her father with the sport of tennis. In 2003, she became a professional player.

In 2002, she won at Wimbledon with a final victory over Maria Sharapova the title in the Junior Women. In 2005, she reached her first final on the WTA Tour, which she lost to Kim Clijsters in Eastbourne at the International Women's Open. From 2004 to 2011 she was ranked among the top 100 of the singles world rankings.

Dushevina also belonged to the Russian Fed Cup team that defeated France in Paris in 2005 in the final 3-2. In the same year she was the doubles competition at Wimbledon in the quarterfinals; together with Shahar Peer defeated them mating Anna -Lena Grönefeld / Martina Navratilova with 6:7, 4:6. It was her best result at a Grand Slam tournament.

Her first doubles title on the WTA Tour, she won in 2007 in Warsaw at the side of Perebiynis with a Enspielsieg Jelena Lichowzewa and Jelena Wesnina. In the same year she reached her second singles final, which she lost to Agnieszka Radwańska in the Nordea Nordic Light Open in Stockholm.

2009 succeeded Dushevina also the first individual title on the WTA Tour. In the final game of Istanbul, she missed Lucie Hradecká with 6:0 and 6:1 a bitter defeat.
