Veratryl alcohol (3,4- dimethoxybenzyl ) is derived structurally from both the benzyl alcohol as well as from veratrole (o- dimethoxybenzene ).

It can be represented in methanolic solution of veratraldehyde by reduction with hydrogen / Raney - nickel at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.
