As a brotherhood book is called lists of medieval monasteries where prayer brotherhoods are recorded. So you contain lists of names of the founders and benefactors of the monastery and of persons who had a monastery in close intellectual bond, so that their was thought in the monastic prayers. They have often been applied already in the 8th century and continued until the 13th century. Necrologies as well as year -day or year books are their successors in many ways.

The brotherhood books are a rich personal history and spoke historical source for the history of the early Middle Ages.
