Verlans

Verlans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Verlans situated at an altitude of 350 m above sea level, 3 km west of Héricourt and about 9 km northwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the western part of the Burgundian Gate, in the Talniederung the Ruisseau de l' Etang.

The area of ​​1.64 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the Burgundian Gate. The central part of the area is crossed from west to east from the valley of the Ruisseau de l' Etang, which provides for drainage to Lizaine. Is flanked approximately one kilometer- wide valley in the south of the plateau of Laire, which is constructed from limestone of the Upper Jurassic time. It is on average 400 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. To the north, the municipality's area extends over a relatively gentle slope rising to the wooded ridge of the Grand Bois, who falls to the north with a steep step. History

Is first mentioned Verlans in 1173 under the name Vaylant. This was followed by the spellings Vellans (1300), Voillans ( 1374 ) and Veans before asserted itself in 1613 Verlans. In the Middle Ages Verlans first belonged directly to the County of Montbéliard. In 1327 it was placed under the rule Héricourt. The Reformation was introduced about 1565. Upon incidence of the Guises was Verlans 1587/88 looted and destroyed, as in the years 1635 to 1638 during the Thirty Years' War. With the annexation of the county of Montbéliard came Verlans 1793 final in French hands. Since 2001 Verlans is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Héricourt.

Population

With 140 inhabitants (2007 ) Verlans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 40 and 80 people, a strong population growth was recorded during the 1970s. After a temporary stagnation occurred since 2000, again an increase in the number of inhabitants.

Economy and infrastructure

Verlans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, working in the village inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. However, many of the working commuters who do their work in Héricourt and in the agglomerations Belfort and Montbéliard.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Héricourt after Trémoins. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 13 km.
