Vernaccia

The name Vernaccia is not necessarily used in Italy for more all related to each other white and red grape varieties. So there is a white Vernaccia Bianca (also Bergamasca, Guarnaccia, schiava white) and a red Vernaccia Nera (also Cerretana also Guarnaccia, Vernaccia di Teramo and Urnaccia ). In addition, there are numerous other varieties whose names begin with Vernaccia and have a local or domain names added as the second part. The best known is a variety from Tuscany, is made from the now the DOCG white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano (also Zuccaia, Verdea D' Arceteri, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Vernaccia di Toscana).

In Sardinia, the DOC white wine Vernaccia di Oristano is produced from one to the other non-related species.

In the Marche region of red DOC sparkling wine Vernaccia di Serrapetrona is generated from a variety known as Vernaccia Nera or Vernaccia delle Marche. Maybe it involves a variety of Grenache. The South Tyrol grown as schiava red wine has nothing to do with the Vernaccia wine. Rather, it corresponds to the spread in Württemberg grown Trollinger. The name Vernaccia is therefore to find so often because it comes from the Italian word vernacolo ( local).
