Vernon Hills is a village in Lake County ( Illinois). According to a census in 2010 lived in Vernon Hills 25 113 inhabitants. Vernon Hills serves as a hub for trade the area, which includes the Villages Libertyville, Lake Forest, Mundelein, Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove.

Geography

According to United States Census Bureau, the total area of the village 20 km2. The land area is 19 km2 and the water area 0.54 km2 ( = 2.49% ).

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 20,120 people in 7,568 households, and 5,312 families in Vernon Hills. The population density 1045.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 7,813 housing units counted with an average housing density of 406.0 per square kilometer buildings.

There were 7,568 households in which children lived in 41 % of cases under 18 years. In it lived in 59 % of cases, couples, 8 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 30 % were non-families. 25% of all households were made up of individuals and 6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 residents and the average family size was 3.24 people.

29% of the population was under the age of 18 years, 6% were 18 to 24 years old, 37 % were 25-44 years old, 22 % were 45 to 64 years old, and 6% were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90 men.

By one estimate, in 2007 the median income for a household in the village was $ 83,358, and the median income for a family was $ 99,064. Males had a median income of $ 54,807 compared with $ 39,136 for women. The average per capita income in Vernon Hills was about $ 32,246. About 2.5 % of families and 2.9 % of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of young people under the age of 18 and 6.8 % of 65 year olds or older.

History

In the countryside, on the Vernon Hills should be later, Richard Theodore Freese, Ron Freese and Jim Carswell established a farm in 1851. The use of the site only changed in the 1950s, was acquired as a part of it for a residential development and a golf course. At this time, the first recorded use of the name " Vernon Hills ". On 16 June 1958, the town was officially incorporated with 123 residents and 125 houses in a single parcel. During this time, the administration and the police station was operated at a local motel, as the village manager acquired two mobile buildings by the year 1971. The community grew slowly but steadily until the purchase of a plot of land near the corner of IL -60 and IL -21 in 1971, which led to the construction of the Hawthorn Center. By 1980 the population had grown to nearly 10,000 inhabitants and in 2000 more than 20,000 residents were counted.

The incorporation of surrounding areas, the municipality geographically grew up in the 1980s and 1990s. This included land on which later the Corporate Woods Business Park and the Centennial Crossing Condominium (1986 ) were built, part of the Hawthorne - Mellody Farms (1988 ) and part of the Village Half Day (Illinois ) ( 1994). In 2000, land was acquired, which has been used at different times by the United States Army as a missile base, of the United States Navy as a Naval Training Center and the Curtiss Candy Company. This land is now the Vernon Hills Sports Complex.
