Verona Elder

Verona Elder (Verona Marolin Elder, born Bernard, born April 5, 1953 in Wolverhampton) is a former British sprinter, who specialized in the 400 -meter run, medium-haul and hurdler.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, she reached the quarter-finals in the 400m and came up with the British team in the 4 x 400 - meter relay team to fifth place.

The following year she won at the Indoor Athletics Championships in Rotterdam over 400 m. In 1974 she won starting for England at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch silver in the 400m and gold in the relay. At the European Athletics Championships in Rome followed by a seventh place in the 400m and sixth in the relay.

At the European Indoor Championships 1975 in Katowice, she won another Gold medal in the 400m. In 1976, she retired at the Olympic Games in Montreal in the quarter-finals of the 400m and finished with the British relay race in seventh place. One silver medal over 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships 1977 in San Sebastián was followed by a sixth place over 800 meters at the European Indoor Championships 1978 in Milan. Just like four years ago, she won at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton silver in the 400m and gold in the season, but went at the European Championships in Prague with an eighth place in the 400m and fourth in the relay again empty-handed.

Two more medals in the 400m she won at the European Indoor Championships: Gold in Vienna in 1979 and bronze in 1981 in Grenoble. About 400 meters hurdles she went to at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 in Brisbane and at the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki, but different from each in the flow.

1972, 1976 and 1977, it was AAA champion. In the hall she took eight times the AAA title over 400 meters ( 1972, 1973, 1975-1977, 1979, 1981, 1982 ) and once over 800 m ( 1978).
