Shiny Speedwell ( Veronica polita )

The Shining Speedwell ( Veronica polita ) is a flowering plant in the family of the plantain family ( Plantaginaceae ).

Description

The Shining prize grows as annual herbaceous plant and plant height usually reaches 8-15 cm. The bald and strong acting stems at the base has to be numerous, prostrate or ascending side branches.

The against-constant leaves are short-stalked. The somewhat plump, shiny, almost bald leaf blade is semi-circular, triangular shaped and colored dark green. The leaf margin is coarsely notched and clearly rolled over down. The foliage leaf underside is much paler than the upper surface and hairy much denser.

The 5-8 mm wide flowers are borne in a racemose inflorescence. The corolla is of sky blue color, rarely nearly white and usually has a dark abyss ring.

The 3-4 mm long and 4-6 mm wide capsule fruit is round or kidney-shaped emarginate and weak. It has a dense fur short, glands and loose hair to short and long glandular hairs. The stylus has a length of typically 1 to 1.6 mm. The little hairy sepals are broadly ovate and grab one over the other at the bottom.

The Shining speedwell blooms mainly in the months of April to June and usually also from July to October.

Occurrence

Veronica polita comes from southern Scandinavia to the Mediterranean area in front. East of it penetrates to East Asia. It comes in Central Europe usually widespread.

In Germany and Austria the shiny prize is widespread and fairly common to find part. Only in North Germany it is absent over large distances.

In Switzerland, the Shining prize comes only in the central area are less common, otherwise it is common to find.

Veronica polita grows in arable weeds companies, vineyards and gardens. He prefers more or less fresh, usually nutrient-rich and often somewhat sandy loam soils.
