Véronique Gens

Véronique Gens ( born April 19, 1966 in Orléans ) is a French soprano.

The daughter of a physician studied English and wanted to be a translator first. But after she won the first prize in a singing contest at the Conservatoire de Paris, it was shortly thereafter, in 1986, her debut as a member of the ensemble Les Arts Florissants. Within a short time, she gained a reputation of being one of the best Baroque artist of her time. In 1989 she performed in a production of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen in Aix -en- Provence. Since then, she acquired, among others roles by Monteverdi, Lully, Rameau, Marais and Cavalli. In many shots, she devoted herself next to the Opera, among others, the motets by Delalande, Bois Mortier and Alessandro Scarlatti and the cantatas and chamber duets by Handel. Gene worked closely with their sponsors William Christie, but also with conductors such as René Jacobs and Philippe Herreweghe.

Her second pillar alongside the Baroque represents the repertoire of Mozart dar. 1994 she played the role of Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro ) at the Opera House in Lyon with outstanding success. That same season she sang Mozart's Requiem. In the summer of 1998/1999 their interpretation of Donna Elvira ( Don Giovanni) took place under Claudio Abbado great recognition. The production by Peter Brook was put on show at the Festival of Aix -en- Provence, and later in Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Japan. Multiple she was engaged as Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito ) and Pamina ( Die Zauberflöte).

Véronique Gens has received numerous awards. In 2002, the soprano for a Victoire de la Musique was nominated as Best Singer of the Year.
