Verrucaria

Verrucaria spec.

The genus includes numerous Verrucaria, almost always gesteinsbewohnende lichens. Most species are typical Kalkflechten. The fruiting bodies are small, rarely more than 0.6 mm wide perithecia, which are usually more or less sunk into the camp or endolithic species in the rock. Hardly any other lichen species is currently known as insufficient as Verrucaria.

Special

Worth mentioning are the so-called endolithic species in which the hyphae and the algal layer are within the rock. The perithecia are literally dissolved into the stone. After the death of the camp remain at rock left little pits.
