Vesey Street

The Vesey Street is a street in the south of New York City's district of Manhattan, USA.

Location and History

The Vesey Street runs east- west through Lower Manhattan. Before the construction of the World Trade Center they ran from Broadway to the Hudson River. Since 2009 she runs into four sections:

  • From Broadway to Church Street for vehicle traffic and pedestrians.
  • From Church Street to West Street as a pedestrian zone. This section has been broadened by the construction of the World Trade Center and disconnects the World Trade Center on the south side of the street from the Verizon Building on the north side of the road.

History

The Vesey Street was named after the Reverend William Vesey (1674-1746), the first pastor of the nearby Trinity Church. The supermarket chain A & P had their first shop in the Vesey Street.

A part of the building that remained standing after the collapse, has been preserved and is known as the Survivors ' Staircase.
