Vespula

German wasp ( Vespula germanica )

The Vespula ( Vespula ) are a genus of the family of wasps ( Vespidae ). Worldwide 26 species are known, which are mainly distributed in the Holarctic and Oriental. 13 species occur in North America, in Europe there are four. The genus includes the commons wasp ( Vespula vulgaris ) and the German wasp ( Vespula germanica ) the well -known species of wasps.

Features

Vespula differ from similar Dolichovespula ( Dolichovespula ) in that no distance between the lower edge of the eye and the approach of the mandibles is formed. The mandibles thus draw directly a below the compound eyes, so that the cheeks are missing almost completely.
