Vevelstad

Vevelstad is a commune in the Norwegian landscape Helgeland in Nordland. The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality Alstahaug, to the east by Vefsn, in the south with Brønnøy and across the sea to the west of the island municipality of Vega.

The main employers are agriculture, fishing, fish processing and the timber industry.

The idyllic coastal R17 ( Riksvei 17) runs right through the town.

Geography

The community extends around the Vistenfjorden ranging very far inland. He is the rainiest Fjord Norway. The largest island is Hamnøya.

History

Rock Carvings Vistnesdalen point back to a settlement of the fish-rich fjord to the Stone Age.

Culture

Vevelstad is a participant in the Artscape Nordland with the sculpture "Opus for sky og jord " by Oddvar IN in Helgeland Museum.
