Vib-Ribbon

Vib -Ribbon is a music / rhythm game for the Sony Playstation, released in late 1999 or early 2000 in Japan and Europe. Similar to Space Channel 5 for the Dreamcast have to press the correct button at certain times.

Control

It is a simple animated rabbit ( Vibri ) controlled on a line appear on the obstacles. There are four different obstacles that are each assigned to a controller button: wall, loop, hole and shaft. There are also six other obstacles that represent the compositions of the " basic obstacles ". If you manage to pass a certain number of obstacles error-free, so you get the character angel wings and then mastered in the final obstacles give extra points. But if you make more than nine errors, so the character is demoted in evolution and you will be first to a frog, and finally to a worm. Withstands is, however, a certain number of obstacles without errors, you can rise to a " Vibri " again. There are three different levels that need to play through: bronze, silver and gold.

Music

The soundtrack of Vib -Ribbon was composed by the Japanese group Laugh and Peace. A special feature of Vib -Ribbon is that, instead of the game CD also may appeal any music CD in the PlayStation and the game then generates a specific " obstacle course " due to the characteristics of the music, then you play can. The graphics are intentionally kept very minimalistic and consists only of vector graphic lines. This gives the game but a distinctive style, which continues in the successors, Mojib Ribbon and Vib Ripple partially.

Reception

On 29 November 2012, the Museum of Modern Art announced the acquisition of 14 computer games, including Vib -Ribbon, a new design permanent exhibition in the Philip Johnson Galleries from March 2013 known. In the notice, the title has been referred to as outstanding representatives in the field of interaction design. Criteria were, therefore, in addition to the visual quality and the aesthetic experience of all aspects that contribute to the design of the interaction, such as the elegance of the code or the design of the player behavior.
