Vibhuti

Vibhuti (Sanskrit, m., विभूति, Vibhuti ) is a great blessing in Hinduism (Sacred ) ash, which comes from the sacrificial fire and brought particularly in connection with the Hindu god Shiva.

The ash has several symbolic meanings and are awarded their supernatural powers. As an auspicious item they carry, especially the followers of Shiva as Tika on the forehead or other body parts or use them for the healing of physical and mental diseases.

Marco Polo is the first European to mention the Vibhuti: During his trip through South India in 1300, he wrote: " The Indians burned cow dung into an ointment with which they rub themselves This ointment is there so revered, as with the Christians, the holy water.. "

Today especially Sathya Sai Baba is known for his alleged materializations of vibhuti.
