Vic Armstrong

Victor Monroe Armstrong ( born October 5, 1946 in Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, England ) is a British stuntman, who today mainly as an assistant director, second unit director and stunt coordinator and action works. He is also active as a director.

Life

He left school at the age of 14 to work as a jockey. Through the Equestrian he came to the film industry, in conjunction, when he was hired in 1966 for Arabesque by Stanley Donen as a rider Double. In the following years he worked as a stuntman among others in several James Bond films. As early as 1968 he began his work as a stunt coordinator for the film in the sights of the Hawk by Joseph Losey. This task was followed by other activities and behind the camera, so for A Bridge Too Far by Richard Attenborough and the Superman movies.

In addition, he was also repeatedly worked as a double, so for Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, Roger Moore, Ryan O'Neal or Harrison Ford, he stood in for the latter even with all the Indiana Jones films and, along with George Lucas the only one to was involved in all three " Indy movies " and based on this TV series. Armstrong had a great resemblance to Ford and played many action scenes in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as the performer for weeks was canceled due to a back injury during the filming.

In this series, for which he directed the first episode of the second season, Armstrong had his directorial debut. Also director, he directed the film Beret - The Law Abiding Citizen (1993 ) with Dolph Lundgren and George Segal. He also staged the opening scene of Terminator 2 - Judgment Day.

He is married to Wendy Leech, who works as a stunt woman and who he met during the filming of Superman (1978). The two have three children who are also active in the film business.

Awards

  • At the Oscars 2001, he was awarded the Technical Achievement Award for the development of a rope apparatus that stuntmen allows to safely get to a free fall to the ground.
  • In 2002 he received at the BAFTA Awards the Michael Balcon Award for his contribution to the British film industry.
  • In 2005 him the Lifetime Achievement Award of the World Stunt Awards were awarded. He was nominated in 2001 and 2003 Best for the Taurus Award in the category stunt coordinator for 3 Charlie's Angels (2001 ) and Gangs of New York ( 2003) over the years.
