Vic Hoyland

Vic Hoyland ( born 1945 in Yorkshire ) is an English composer.

After studying art at Hull University to Hoyland turned to music and received a PhD degree under the tutors Sherlaw Robert Johnson and Bernard Rands at York University. From 1980 to 1983 he was Haywood Fellow at Birmingham University. After teaching for two years at York University, he returned to Birmingham, where he gives lessons in composition.

Hoyland was, inter alia, commissions by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Arditti String Quartet and the Lindsay String Quartet and has written works for the festivals of Aldeburgh, Almeida, Bath, Cheltenham, Huddersfield, South Bank and York. The song In Transit was created in 1987 for the Proms.

In Transit was with Vixen, a BBC commission for the Cheltenham International Festival of Music, recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra for NMC Records. All works Hoylands sent by BBC Radio 3.
