Vic Niblett

Victor " Vic" Niblett ( born December 9, 1924 in Frimley, Camberley, † 1 October 2004 in Gillingham ) was an English footballer.

Career

Niblett moved during the Second World War to the first team of FC Reading and came in the seasons 1943/44, bis 1945/46, on the side of players like Matt Busby, Tony McPhee and Willie Fagan to a total of 46 missions in the regional Wartime League. In May 1945 he signed a professional contract with Reading, came up to his departure in June 1950 at West Ham United but only six missions in the Football League Third Division.

After he had remained for one season at second division West Ham behind Dick Walker without use, he was taken in August 1951 by Archie Clark to Gillingham FC back into the Third Division. The quiet and reliable center-half was at Gillingham until April 1953 starting player, as a violation in Bournemouth a series of 91 consecutive league operations interrupted. Only in October 1954, he could take back his place, in October 1956, he had to end his career because of the consequences of multiple concussions. Together with John Warshap Niblett was given a farewell match against a British army selection in May 1958.

After his football career Niblett worked as a groundskeeper at Priestfield and also served several times as a Scout for Gillingham. After he had retired from football, he earned his living as a real estate dealer, but remained living in Gillingham.
