Vic Toews

Victor " Vic" Toews ( born September 10, 1952 in Filadelfia, Boqueron, Paraguay ) is a Canadian politician of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Life

After schooling Toews first studied history at the University of Winnipeg and finished this study in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA History). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the University of Manitoba, he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) from. Later, he was from 1988 to 1995 Lecturer in Economics at the University of Manitoba.

Toews, who was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba since 1989, was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in 1995 and represented in this until 1999, the constituency Rossmere. Immediately after his election he was appointed Gary Filmon, the Prime Minister of Manitoba, Minister of Labour of the province. After a cabinet reshuffle, he was between 1997 and the end of FilmOn's term of office in October 1999, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Manitoba.

In 2000 he was elected a member of the Canadian House of Commons and represents in this since the constituency Provencher. On 6 February 2006 Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed him Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the cabinet 28.

In these functions Toews decreed on 22 June 2006, the extradition of John Graham, a tribesman of the Southern Tutchonen from Whitehorse, Yukon, in the United States, since this participation in the murder of Anna Mae Aquash, a prominent member of the American Indian Movement, was accused in December 1975.

As part of a reshuffle Toews was first on January 4, 2007 President of the Treasury ( Treasury Board ). Since a further reshuffle on 19 January 2010, he is Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
