Vicente Guterres

Vicente da Silva Guterres ( born January 22, 1955 in Baguia, Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor. In civilian life Guterres is a teacher of philosophy. Since 2012 he is President of the National Parliament of East Timor.

Life

During the Indonesian occupation of East Timor (1975-1999) Guterres lived in Portugal, where he worked for the Diplomatic Front of Timorese Resistance ( Frente Diplomatica because Resistência Timorense ). From 1975 to 1977 he was director of the Casa Timor ( Timor house) and 1980-2000 Secretary of the Timorese refugee community in Portugal ( Comunidade dos Refugiados de Timor em Portugal CRT). From 1977 to 1982 Guterres was president of the Youth Union of Timorese in Portugal ( União da Juventude em Portugal Timorense UJT). From 1982 he was second vice president of the party União Democrática Timorense (UDT ), 1989-1993 First Vice President from 1993 to 1998 chairman of the Political Commission of the UDT. To this end, Secretary of the General Assembly of the League of Friends of Timor in Lisbon ( Liga dos Amigos de Timor em Lisboa ) from 1989 to 2000 and Vice President of the Cabinet for Timorese Affairs ( Gabinete dos Assuntos de Timor GATIMOR ) By 1983 to 1993.
