Vicente Rondón

Vicente Rondon Paúl ( born July 29, 1938 in Rio Chico, Miranda, Venezuela, † December 28, 1992 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan boxer. He was world champion professional boxer in the light heavyweight division.

Career

Vicente Rondon grew up in San Jose de Rio Chico in extreme poverty. To escape this poverty, he joined the Venezuelan army at a young age. There he came into contact with sports and was a good boxer. In the amateur level, he played 34 fights, of which he won. Larger title wins he could not list, however.

1965, at the age of 27 years already Vicente Rondon was a professional boxer, which he claimed as the birth year incorrectly 1944. His manager was Tuto Zabala. He played his first match on June 28, 1965 in Caracas and won middleweight over his compatriot Joe Carabella by KO in the 3rd round. His next fights he denied all in Venezuela or Puerto Rico. He remained unbeaten in his first fourteen fights.

On January 12, 1968, he boxed for the first time in New York. He was officially introduced to the rather second-rate American Bobby Wartem, he lost to the after 10 rounds by points.
