Vicente T. Mendoza

Vicente Mendoza Teódulo Gutiérrez ( born January 27, 1894 in Cholula, † October 27, 1964 in Mexico City) was a Mexican musicologist.

Mendoza came in 1907 to Mexico City, where he studied from 1914 to 1916 Music theory. Building on the work of Nicolas Leon and Manuel María Ponce, he devoted himself to the study of Mexican folklore. In 1929 he became professor of music theory at the National Conservatory of Mexico, and later he was also appointed as music supervisor for the elementary schools. In 1938 he founded the Sociedad Folklórica de México, its first president was. With his wife, Virginia Rodríguez Rivera, he founded the first school for Mexican folklore studies. From 1936 until his death he worked at the Institute of Aesthetics Research National Autonomous University of México.
