Victor Rasgado

Víctor Rasgado ( born July 8, 1959 in Mexico City) is a Mexican composer.

Rasgado had from the age of six piano lessons and performed for the first time in 1975 as a pianist and composer publicly. Until 1978 he studied piano and composition at the Escuela Nacional de Música in Luis Mayagoitia, then at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales Tiamatinime and by 1986 at the Royal School of Music in London.

At the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales he taught from 1979 to 1986 solfege, next after studying history at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana from 1984 also music history. 1986-97 he participated in courses for counterpoint and fugue at Timothy Baxter in London. 1987 gave him a scholarship from the Instituto Nacional de Belas Artes to study with Franco Donatoni in Italy.

In the summer of 1989 Rasgado attended courses in composition and conducting at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, after which he studied until 1992, composition, electronic music, organ, Gregorian chant and instrumentation at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. With composer Juan TRIGOS he founded the chamber music ensemble Sones Contemporáneos that the performance of contemporary Mexican compositions devoted himself.

In 1992, he was general manager and director of the project for electro-acoustic live music of the Festin en el Mictlán. In 1993 he assisted Donatoni in its composition courses at the Conservatory and the Ecuela Nacional de Musica in Mexico was.

1995 provided him a Fulbright Scholarship to study abroad at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. ( Inglaterra ), en el Conservatorio G. Verdi ( Milán), en la Academia Chigiana (Siena ) y en la Aecademia de Alto Perfeccionamiento Lorenzo Perosi de Biella (Italy).

Rasgado twice received a Gaudeamus Prize of UNESCO. For the composition Revontulet 1993 he received the first prize at the International Composition Competition Alfred Casella. Anacleto Morones in 1994 was awarded the Orpheus for contemporary chamber opera, the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale is awarded by, the Vienna Chamber Opera and the publisher Ricordi in Milan.
