Victor Sen Yung

Victor Sen Yung (Chinese扬森; born October 18, 1915 in San Francisco, as Sen Yew Cheung, † November 9, 1980 in North Hollywood ) was an American actor of Chinese descent.

Biography

When his mother died in 1919 when a flu epidemic, his sister, and he came in a children's home. His father returned to the home and came back in the mid 1920s, after he had married again, back to the U.S..

At the age of twelve years, Victor Sen Yung began working as a Boy with a family in Nob Hill. He then studied animal husbandry at the University of Berkeley. In 1938 he began under the name of Victor Yung with acting. He joined during his career under the name Sen Young, Victor Sen Young, Victor Sen Young, and Yung. He also worked for a chemical company and brought samples of a flame retardant for 20th Century Fox to sell them. Instead of buying the chemicals they casted him for the role as Charlie Chan's son number 2 in the film Charlie Chan in Honolulu. Then he played in twelve Charlie Chan films, and later as the son of No. 1

He became world famous as a cook Hop Sing on the Ponderosa in the television series Bonanza, in which he played from 1959 to 1973 in 101 episodes.

In 1974 he published a book about Cantonese cooking with the title " Great Wok Cookbook " ( Nash Publishing).

Victor Sen Yung died on November 9, 1980 from the effects of poisoning by a gas leak at a furnace in his house.
