Victor Wolfgang von Hagen

Victor Wolfgang von Hagen (* February 29, 1908 in St. Louis, † March 8, 1985 in Italy) was an American explorer, archaeological historian, anthropologist and travel writer.

Hagen has toured Latin America together with his first wife Christine and later also with his second wife Silvia (born Edzard ). In the early 1950s he undertook a two-year research journey along the paths of ancient Inca roads of Peru and discovered the only surviving suspension bridge of this path. This trip was financially possible by the Hamburg merchant Sigmund Gildemeister, the grandfather, Silvia and therefore the book "Highway of the Sun" was dedicated to him. Between 1940 and 1965 he wrote a variety of accepted books on the American Inca, Maya and Aztec peoples.

His daughter, Adriana von Hagen is now deputy director of the Museum of Leymebamba (Peru ).
