Vicuña Mackenna, Argentina

Vicuña Mackenna is a town in the department of Río Cuarto, Córdoba Province, Argentina. It has 9,000 inhabitants (as of 2001).

Location

Vicuña Mackenna belongs geographically to Pampa. The city is located in the south of the province, about 300 km from the provincial capital of Cordoba, at the intersection of state highways 7 and 35 The city was named after a train station, in 1885 on the railroad Buenos Aires - Mendoza was opened. The 1911, certain of the then governor of the province of Córdoba, Felix Tomás Garzón, the nearest place that until then " Pueblo Torres " was to name it after the train station. With today's name is thought to the Chilean writer and historian Benjamin Vicuña Mackenna.

Economy

The city is one of the most dynamic economies in the region, the main activity is agriculture. There are grown soybeans, peanuts and corn, other areas are dairy products and agritourism.
