Videle

Videle is a town in the district Teleorman in Romania.

Location

Videle is the Wallachian Plain. The county town Alexandria is located approximately 40 km south, the country's capital, Bucharest, 50 km northeast.

History

Videle has long been a small village, won by the discovery of oil deposits since about 1900 important. At the beginning of the 20th century, the railway line from Giurgiu was taken after Videle in operation; after the Second World War, the city was the construction of the railway from Bucharest to Craiova on Rosiorii de Veda to the railway junction. In 1968, Videle the status of a city. The main industries are agriculture and oil production.

Population

As of the 2002 census, 11,987 people lived in the Videle, including about 500 in eingemeindeten place Coşoaia, the others in the city proper. 11,537 were Romanians and 446 Roma.

Traffic

Videle is an important railway hub in southern Romania. At the station, including high-speed trains; there are good connections to Bucharest, Giurgiu and in the southwest of the country. There are regular bus services, among others, to Alexandria.
