Viehdorf is an Austrian municipality with 1322 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Lower Austria's wine district.

Geography

Viehdorf consists of three local villages, which are also three places simultaneously. ( Number of inhabitants according to 2011 census registers ):

  • Hainstetten (3.40 km ², 311 Ew. )
  • Seisenegg ( 5.76 km ², 326 Ew. )
  • Viehdorf (6.73 km ², 662 Ew. )

History

Maybe during the Roman period, but certainly during the early Middle Ages Viehdorf was a transportation hub for the coming of Oed high road with the coming of Ardagger Herfurt ( highway ). At the intersection of the street there was the fortified seat Ennsfeld, now a village in Viehdorf. The irregular shape ( Haufendorf ) suggests that the village is very old. The names Viehdorf derives from the name of a livestock operation, in Schiltdor was a mode for label generation. Maybe these businesses were built by the Lower Bavarian Metten Abbey.

Documented are the Knights of Viehdorf from 1128 demonstrated that family died around 1500 again. Maybe it was at this time in Viehdorf a moated castle. Around 1600 Viehdorf an important bastion of Protestantism and lock Seisenegg a center of Protestant aristocratic culture. Catholic parish was Viehdorf again until 1775.

Castle Seisenegg that had belonged to the Lords of Walsee 1303-1483, was the relatively traffic- convenient location and importance of the owner of a local size and was until 1848 the seat of a district court. It is now a cultural center and a registry office.

There is also in Hainstetten a Renaissance castle, whose owners often changed. Currently, it is owned by the School Sisters in Amstetten.

Policy

The council has 19 seats, mayor of the municipality is Johann Redl.

In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP reached 15, the SPÖ 3 and citizens list Viehdorf ( BLV ) 1 mandate. In the municipal elections of 2010, the BLV no longer went to, the SPÖ lost one seat ÖVP and FPÖ won one seat each, the latter moved into the council.
