Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains

Vieux- Boucau- les- Bains is a commune in the Landes department of the Aquitaine region.

The small tourist town with 1551 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in southwestern France is located directly on the Atlantic coast. During the holiday season from late May to September, attracts up to 40,000 tourists in the holiday village.

History

To 1578 was called Vieux- Boucau Port d'Albret and was an important port on the Adour. After the diversion of the river, the port was abandoned and the place got the name means Old estuary.

Attractions

The downtown area consists of the old town and the new part. Through the town leads a channel that feeds a centrally located 60 -acre saltwater lake. The artificial lake was built in the 1970s. Its water is regularly renewed by means of a lock on the canal, the gates open to the rhythm of the tides.

In the old bullring show animal fights are shown in the season a week in which the animals are not injured.
